Happy 2009.
There will be some changes to temporalab and to brookhinton.com in the coming days and weeks. Temporalab is going to become a bit more of a dumping ground for notes and sketches and less of a videoblog - there will still be plenty of video here, but other material as well. It was never intended to be a regular “show” or vlog, and will return to being more of a studio journal with audio and video.
More changes: I’ll be putting a good portion of my pre-2008 film, video and audio work up at full resolution on the main site in the coming weeks. There will be some sort of pay-what-you-will-or-nothing thing established for some new projects, perhaps along the lines of what the innovative folks at cashmusic.org have been up to, but I want to keep everything available to everyone as best I can.
Related to this, “Glimpse” is going out of print. It will take awhile for it to move out of the createspace/amazon.com universe, so you can still get it there for at least a little while. I’m just increasingly uneasy about flooding the world with plastic, and will be focusing more on things that occur in-person, on the web, and in physical space this year.
As for Testify: the final piece will be very different. Present plans don’t even include speech - so in a way these rough cuts are a chance to play with elements that probably won’t make it into the final version. This is just a one minute except of what will probably be a multi-channel endurance test. I doubt Mr. C will appear as he does here, at least not in part one. But all that said, comments appreciated on the lot of it.

My “9-11″ film. Made in 2002. Began as a film about a landscape drowning in flags. Evolved into a meditation on the before-and-after emotional atmospheres surrounding a cataclysmic event, using post 9/11 San Francisco and national news punditry as sources. It needs remastering but I wanted to put it up today for obvious reasons. It’s on the “Glimpse” DVD if you desire a higher quality version encoded on a plastic disc. This one’s 1400k (ipod compatible), so if you aren’t on a speedy dsl or cable connection you’ll want to either download it manually or wait a bit longer than usual before letting it play through. Headphones, or at least high volume (some key sound is very quiet) recommended.
at a Waimanalo institution. I’ll upload HD versions when I’m back in the realm of my own DSL.
Ending my videobloggingweek2008 posts where they started - in Santa Cruz CA. Quicktime/ipod is 360p@900k. Apple TV is 540p@ 2500k. Thanks for watching.
Not a lot of time today, so I thought I’d just encourage everyone to brush after every movie. Friday entry for Videobloggingweek 2008. One more to go.
It was in Dunsmuir. Looking at the back of the cabin was a mistake, as it seemed certain it would just slide into the river during the night.Thursday entry for videobloggingweek 2008. Quicktime is 320p@1000k, ipod is 480p@1400k.
or this may happen to you. Wednesday entry for Videobloggingweek 2008.Quicktime is 432×360@1100k, Ipod is 640×480@1400k.
Videobloggingweek 2008 #3 (Tuesday). And another temporal compression nightmare, but this is a really rough sketch anyway. I’ll probably do something more with it pretty soon.
Footage is from an unfinished film about the Santa Cruz boardwalk area (kind of a sequel to A Trip Down Third Street). Sound is just raw from the camera (the SC film will probably be silent).
